Club Update January 2023

The Nepean District Tennis Association held its 102nd Annual General Meeting on Thursday 15th December 2022. The meeting was held outside the Woodriff Gardens Tennis Centre whilst our clubhouse is undergoing extensive renovations. There was some good input from all who attended on the night. At the conclusion of the meeting, I felt confident that the future is bright for NDTA, so let’s bring on 2023.

Before I move on, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mark Gorman and I was elected the Nepean District Tennis Association Club President. I would like to acknowledge our former club president Kevin Middlebrook for his work during the past two years given the impact both Covid 19 and inclement weather had on the club financially. I’d also like to recognize Carey Sinden, Rebecca Constable and the entire coaching team who held down the fort with our day-to-day operations of the club. The club membership is appreciative of your dedication. At the recent AGM there was a call for a new president, I raised my hand after being nominated and was accepted as your new club president.

I have been a Leonay resident for 27 years and I love this city and this tennis club. I am married with no children. I played tennis as a junior and found this great sport again 18 years ago as an adult. I play socially every Friday night with my brother and nephew.

As your club president I would like to build on the strong foundation of this great club. Given the impact of the last two years with Covid and the inclement weather, our 2023 goal is to build the club to a position of financial security. The club needs an annual operating budget and smart marketing program. Essentially the viability of the club rests with our ability to get customers through our doors. Hopefully by the end of 2023 our new clubhouse will be up and running which will allow us to plan various events for 2024 season as well as celebrate our 102nd+ year. Sponsorship is the nucleus of any sporting association so I will do my best to canvass the many local businesses and other institutions to help with our financial goals.

An Update of The Committee

I feel I can confidently say that the future is bright for the Nepean District Tennis Association. This is due to our volunteer uptake and a committee keen to drive success. Our committee is not quite locked in as some positions are still to be determined.

From the recent AGM our members are listed below:

  •                 Mark Gorman – Club President

  •                 Mark Hurst – Acting Treasurer

  •                 Julie Giugovaz – Ordinary Member

  •                 Lochlan Campbell – Ordinary Member

  •                 Michael Ensor – Ordinary Member

I would like to thank the existing and new members of the committee and look forward to working with each one of you.

Finally, it is an honor to be elected president of this great club and so I will do my very best provide a great 2023 for all our juniors, seniors and social members.

Sincerely

Mark Gorman

Club President.
